Dr. Cornish accepts graduate students (Masters and Doctoral) from well-qualified students world wide. She has supervisory privileges in three graduate programs:
Please contact Dr. Cornish directly at kim.cornish@mcgill.ca. Send a CV and a statement of your research interests. Please look closely at the academic requirements needed for each program as they differ. Preference is given to students who have had some experience of working in a child laboratory either cognitive, neuro, or clinical, and who have potential to secure research funding through external graduate scholarships.
If you are interested in applying then please feel free to contact Dr Cornish for a visit as early as possible in the academic year because she accepts only a limited number of graduate students per year. As a graduate student you will be part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary research team and be expected to publish and present your research findings as widely as possible under the direction of Dr Cornish. All graduate students have the opportunity to attend and present their findings at international conferences and to network with senior researchers world-wide.
The core attributes of a great student include the ability to manage their time effectively (critical for those applying for School Psychology!), excellent mentorship potential and a real enthusiasm for good science at the empirical and scientific levels.
We actively encourage volunteers to work in our lab either throughout the academic year or during the summer recess. You will join a specific research team and will be under the mentorship of Dr. Cornish and our senior researchers. We hope that this experience will provide you with an excellent opportunity to experience first-hand a dynamic cognitive developmental laboratory. Moreover, within this unique environment you will begin to appreciate how the knowledge that you have acquired through your studies can be applied to a more practical, experimental setting.
During your tenure in our lab, you will develop a variety of research skills that will include testing children from typical and atypical populations, alongside other skills such as literature searches, test scoring, and analysis. A letter of reference from Dr. Cornish will also be provided at the completion of your tenure.
We accept students from all over Canada and world-wide with a preference for undergraduate students completing their penultimate or final year of a psychology or neuroscience degree. You will need to provide a current CV and a written justification for why you wish to volunteer in our lab.
You can contact Dr. Cornish directly at Kim.Cornish@McGill.ca or go to our Research Projects page and contact the individual researcher for a specific project. (Please ensure that you cc Dr. Cornish on email requests.)
There is a one month trial period to help you decide if this is the right lab for you. All volunteer work is unpaid unless other specified by Dr. Cornish.
