Disorders of Attention (ADHD) - Research Project

ADHD and Math Performance

The aim of this project is to assess children's performance on math tasks while they are treated with Ritalin. This research is part of a larger "Clinical and Pharmaco-genetic Study of ADHD", conducted at the ADHD Clinic at Douglas Mental Health University Institute (Montreal). We also would like to identify factors that may affect math performance in these children, such as Executive Function and genetics. Our participants are children between the ages of 6 to 12, who have suspected ADHD or who are already diagnosed with ADHD.

This study is important because:

  1. we use objective measures to assess the effects of Ritalin; and
  2. it will allow us to better understand how Ritalin helps children with ADHD perform on school related tasks.

Children with ADHD often exhibit deficit math. This project is an important step in understanding the nature of these delays. Students who would like to volunteer for this project will be working with children diagnosed with ADHD, conducting assessments both at the ADHD clinic and at schools.
